WEIGHT MANAGEMENT COUNSELING
Obesity is a serious and ever increasing health concern in Canada and today over 23% of Canadians are considered obese. A number of factors underlie the development of a weight problem. Some of these factors are listed below:
The increasing incidence of obesity in our society has major implications for our health care system if one considers the associated health risks. Obese individuals are at much greater risk of developing coronary heart disease, heart attacks, strokes, diabetes and more. Also, excessive weight can cause increased degenerative joint disease in the, knees and hips and may ultimately cause potentially crippling injuries. Conversely, being “underweight” has its own set of health risks, including; increased risk of developing osteoporosis, infertility, decreased immunity and more. Like obesity, being underweight is also related to a number of possible underlying problems, such as metabolic, hormonal, psychological and emotional. Some individuals are just naturally thinner than others simply because of their metabolism and they tend to burn more calories than usual or they simply eat less than most people. Other people may lose weight as a result of certain medications or an underlying medical condition. If you experience a sudden unexplained weight loss you should consult your doctor, since this can be an indication of a serious underlying health problem. Also, if you notice a sudden unexplained weight loss in a friend or relative you should recommend that they see a doctor. <<TO BOOK AN APPOINTMENT NOW CLICK HERE >>
