Family Health and Sports Injury Clinic

Foot, lower limb and back pain are commonly caused by altered foot mechanics that can be corrected with the use of orthotics. Village Chiropractic is equipped with the latest in computerized gait assessment techniques in order to accurately evaluate your foot mechanics during the gait cycle. If abnormal foot mechanics is the cause of your pain, prescription orthotics can be designed and custom made to correct for any biomechanical problem that may be found. An extensive array of orthotic footwear is also available to further enhance the therapeutic affects of your new orthotics, including: dress, casual and athletic shoes, sandals and work boots.

During the gait assessment the doctor will first examine the static posture of your feet and legs while standing stationary. During this static analysis the symmetry of the bones and soft tissues in your feet and legs is also assessed. Any deviation from normal symmetry in the forefoot or hindfoot is noted during the static assessment. The static assessment is followed by a dynamic analysis of your gait while walking in order to evaluate your foot and leg posture through each gait cycle. The doctor then assesses joint range of motion, speed, and quality of gait, and synchrony of all upper and lower extremity joints. The patient is evaluated walking barefoot as well as while wearing normal walking shoes. Our chiropractors will then observe walking from the back, front, and side. The results of this analysis are then compiled into a detailed report which is used to prescribe custom made orthotics designed specifically to correct any mechanical abnormalities that may exist. Correction of mechanical foot problems using orthotics commonly alleviates painful foot, leg and back conditions.
